…God…created all things. His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realm, according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need (Ephesians 3:9-12; Hebrews 4:15-16).
This is an exciting and historic time for the Body of Christ. The Holy Spirit is shaking and refining His people with powerful and loving wisdom, breaking up the deep places in all of us, that His torrents of living water may cascade from us, unpolluted by fear and unbelief and compromise. We are being fashioned with infinite patience and intricate concern into a beautiful and glorious Bride for King Jesus.
Truly, the Lord is speaking to us that He is doing a new thing in our day (Isaiah 43:19). His work of purification in His people who have been appointed for “such a time as this” (Esther 5:14) is breathtaking to behold. It is in preparation for the great shakings of the systems of this world that are to come. We will be made ready–purified and prepared to release hope and compassion and strength to desperate humanity as they are overwhelmed with despair, searching frantically for answers.
Many of you have cried out to experience the astonishing depths of the Lord and His awesome glory. You have opened yourself in unguarded nakedness, asking Him just as David did to search you and know your heart. You sense the nearness and wonder of a God who is infinitely gracious, possessing majesty and glory beyond the wildest human imagination. Resonating in the inner chambers of your spirit, you hear an rich, warm Voice telling you that you are important to our wondrous Father of Lights. You carry the imprint of His image and the reality of His holiness. You are cherished; you are desired.
But then another voice whispers to you as well. A chilling, gangrenous murmuring reminding you of failure and corruption. You realize with heart-stopping clarity what you are really like; who you really are. You recall to your mind every selfish act; every ugly thought; every cruel word. God may be making His people ready, but you: you’re dirty! Do you really think you can be made pure?
At every moment, voices are speaking to all of us. Most of the time we listen more intently to the dark voices that are strident, insistent, clamorous. But here is a disclaimer to keep in mind: The voices you hear may not be your own.
In fact, most likely they are not.
We all have an internal dialogue. As we speak to ourselves, we are also being spoken to by the enemy of our souls, the one who accuses and condemns us day and night. We are also being wooed by the gentle Comforter who is ever present to lead us into all truth.
Here is a mystery, beautiful and terrifying: you have the authority and power to choose what voice you listen to. The voice that receives your attention is the one that wins. You are either girded with strength for the battle, or depleted of every bit of hope and courage.
You conquer, or you are conquered. Simple as that.
In this time of great transition, turn your full attention to the mercy that flows unendingly from the throne of grace. You were bought with a price by the precious blood of the Lamb of God. He sought you relentlessly, and He continues to seek you, never failing, never wavering in His devotion, desiring your nearness and your love, because His love for you is incomprehensibly vast and beautiful.
The enemy of our souls is defeated. All powers of hell have been stripped naked, humiliated by the triumphant sacrifice of our Savior Jesus. He is, and forever will be, our great and merciful High Priest. We have been given an open invitation to approach Him with bold confidence in His love and mercy toward us. The supreme glory of His purposes and His manifold wisdom will be forever displayed to all creation through us, His people.
Cast away the ugly voices of failure and regret, and listen instead to the One who calls out to you this very moment: “Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.”
